The two sides meet each other for the first time since the Champions League final in May, which Chelsea won 1-0.

Thomas Tuchel boasts a very good recent record against Pep Guardiola having got the better of him three times towards the end of last season.

Another win for Tuchel could be significant in the title race this term as it would put Chelsea six points clear of City.

talkSPORT.com takes a look at how Chelsea and Man City could line up ahead of the Saturday lunchtime showdown.

Chelsea team news

Mason Mount will miss out for Chelsea due to a minor knock, but Edouard Mendy will return in goal having shaken off a hip complaint.

Christian Pulisic remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

Man City team news

As three crunch fixtures loom, City have been dealing with a lengthy injury list, but there is hope that is easing as John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Rodri returned to training this week.

They could come into contention at Stamford Bridge, but Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksandr Zinchenko are expected to miss out again.

How Chelsea could line up

Mount’s absence is a setback for Tuchel but he has plenty of top players to call on to fill in, so we’ve gone for Hakim Ziyech.

Mendy’s return will see him replace Kepa Arrizabalaga, while we’ve gone for Reece James to replace Andreas Christensen, which would see Cesar Azpilicueta slot in at centre-back just like in the Champions League final.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it as far as Tuchel will be concerned

How Man City could line up

All these injury concerns couldn’t have come at a worse time for City, with this match the first in a trilogy of tough away tests. After this, they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and then come up against Liverpool on October 3.

Failure to get good results against Chelsea and Liverpool could see City lose serious ground in the title race so it may be worth Guardiola making one or two gambles with his team.

Although it’s not clear if Stones and Rodri will be fit to play, they should start if they are.

Raheem Sterling started in a false nine position in the goalless draw to Southampton last weekend so it may be worth switching him to the left and playing Gabriel Jesus down the middle instead of the right.

Despite their huge strength in depth, City are looking a bit short ahead of the clash
