LUDHIANA: Kuldeep Singh, the station house officer of Ludhiana’s Division Number-5 police station, was booked by the police on Friday he allegedly slapped Moga’s deputy mayor Ashok Kumar Dhamija.
The SHO along with his team had gone to Moga’s scrap market for recovery of stolen motorcycles on Thursday.
The deputy mayor, who is also the president of Moga’s scrap dealers’ association, tried to intervene and an argument broke out between them.
In a fit of rage, Singh slapped the deputy mayor. The incident was captured on the CCTV installed at the shop.
Dhamija accused the SHO of demanding money for not taking any action against the scrap dealer who is his nephew.
An FIR has been lodged under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of IPC, on the complaint of Dhamija.
Senior superintendent of police Dhruman Nimbale said, “A team from Ludhiana police commissionerate, headed by Kuldeep Singh had reached Moga’s scrap market for the recovery of some stolen motorcycles. Dhamija also reached the market to inquire about the matter. After a conversation of merely two-three seconds between the SHO and Dhamija, the cop slapped him.”
“The behavior of the SHO was inappropriate and against the law. A case has been registered against Kuldeep Singh in this matter” added Nimbale.
