News  /   September

Schaeffler and Mobileye, an Intel company and the leading provider of automated driving solutions, have decided on long-term cooperation.

According to Matthias Zink, CEO, Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler AG, due to the technological change, rapid regulatory, increasing urbanization, and growing social awareness of mobility, the need for alternative and novel concepts like autonomous people or logistics movers has increased.

Schaeffler’s rolling chassis is combined with the Mobileye Drive self-driving system so that a new and flexible platform can be developed for self-driving shuttles and other vehicle products at automation level 4. According to Johann Jungwirth, Vice President, Mobility-as-a-Service, Mobileye, this new platform is equipped with Mobileye Drive that will help in the deployment of autonomous shuttles and other driverless transportation solutions that will start in the next few years.

When Mobileye's AV technology will be combined with Schaeffler's rolling chassis, the companies will be able to offer flexible, adaptable, and autonomous vehicle platforms so that automotive safety standards can be met with the needful redundancies. This will further help in the rapid scaling of autonomous transport solutions from 2023.

The Rolling Chassis from Schaeffler is a scalable and flexible platform for a driverless mobility solution that will help in the transport of people, goods, and for special applications like mobile charging or pop-up stores on wheels.  The corner module allows a steering angle of up to 90 degrees. The series of production and scalability also includes the wheel hub motor and the wheel suspension that also includes air suspension which makes it possible to lower the vehicle for entry.

The Mobileye Drive™ self-driving system is an AV solution that ensures safety through two core concepts which are: Mobileye’s formal Responsibility-Sensitive Safety model and a perception system. Here the first one is for the safety of the system’s decision-making and the second one features true Redundancy™ whereby two independent subsystems together enable robust perception. This self-driving system can also be used without geographical limitations.
