Survival is key in Fortnite, and one small decision can make the difference between early death and a Victory Royale. Heading to the wrong area at the wrong time can lead to defeat if you aren’t careful. Likewise, knowing where to land can start your match off on the right foot, potentially leading to a win. This isn’t always the case, but the early portion of a match can be one of the factors that carry you to success. The thing is — you can’t just land in the same spots over and over again, as Fortnite evolves substantially from season to season.
With that in mind, here is an updated list of the best places to land in Fortnite for chapter 2, season 8.

The best places to land in Fortnite
To help with deciding where to start out each match, we’ll detail the best places to land in Fortnite right now, at the time of chapter 2, season 8. This season features major changes to the beloved Fortnite map and has many NPCs scattered around to give you quests, along with the inclusion of large Cubes, and monsters from an alternate dimension called The Sideways. The map itself hasn’t changed too substantially, but there are numerous points of interest you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for during this season.
The points of interest change up the game considerably, including the best places to land. Picking where to land is difficult, as a number of factors come into play. When deciding on the best locations at this time, we took into account the amount of loot, how many players tend to land there, its physical location, and general popularity.
Whether you are someone who likes to fight all the time or just hide away until most of the players are already gone, we have a starting location for you so that you can start out on the right foot in each match.
Southeast of Craggy Cliffs
Kicking things off is a landing spot with few risks and lots of rewards. We’re talking about the bunker area to the southeast of Craggy Cliffs. This location is almost never contested and has room after room of loot for you to collect. Granted, you won’t find the best loot in the game here, but it’s a surefire way to get started on the right foot, with few risks involved. The best thing about this spot is the basement area, which features a few Slurp barrels that fill up your shields. Just make sure you keep an eye on the storm because this location can be way out of the way once the first zone hits.
Spire to the west of Weeping Woods
This drop is meant for players looking for building materials — specifically metal. But aside from that, there are several chests here, with plenty of opportunities for goodies. Start by landing on top of the spire. Collect as much as you can, and once you’re finished, head northwest of the spire to find a large shipping container. Break down the container and it’ll lead you to a secret underground base, with lots more loot, including metal. Make sure you hit the Slurp barrels while down there, as well. This spot is typically not busy at all, making it one of the safest starting locations in the game. From here, you can easily rotate to many different areas depending on where the storm ends up.
North of Camp Cod (on blue Cube)
This season, a large blue Cube has appeared to the north of Camp Cod, and that’s exactly where you’ll want to go for this landing spot. The wild thing about the blue Cube is that it gives you shields each time you bounce on top of it, so make sure you keep jumping on it until you’re full. Once you’re full on shields, jump down and take advantage of the boatload of surrounding floor loot, along with a handful of chests that can spawn. After this, head north across the bridge, and depending on where the storm is heading, you can then make your decision for where to go next. This area is almost never contested, so it’s safe to land here to get stocked up.
Deep Woods Dish
Next up is a drop spot that is for confident players who can hold their own. Landing at Deep Woods Dish can be tricky, but the rewards can outweigh the risks involved. The beauty of this spot is the sheer number of items you can collect, from weapons, shields, and ammo to fish and other useful building supplies. Because of the volume of loot to collect here, it can take a while to gather everything, so make sure you keep an eye on the storm. For the less skilled players, we either recommend avoiding this area or only coming here when the Battle Bus is far away, so the likelihood of coming across enemies is low.
The cabins at Weeping Woods
Weeping Woods is often contested, but if you can make it into one of the cabins in the center of the area first, you’ll have the upper hand. The great thing about this area is the amount of loot available. There are over a dozen chests available between the two cabins, along with decent floor loot along the way. Make sure you farm wood and other building materials nearby and then utilize the Weapon-o-matic in the northern cabin if need be. To the east of this cabin are several vehicles so you can easily rotate into zone even if it’s far away. This is a lower-risk area, though it’s possible you could come across at least one enemy player here.
Dirty Docks
Dirty Docks has always been a good drop spot, but it’s now better during season 8. This is due to the inclusion of a slipstream here, which can be used to get around efficiently. As you land, you should take note of other players because it will almost certainly be contested. If, by some chance, no one else lands with you, you’re free to loot the entirety of Dirty Docks, but that probably won’t be the case. Make sure you take out any opponents in this area and when you’re ready, use the slipstream to get out safely. Dirty Docks has a slew of materials, with some excellent gear and even a vehicle to make a getaway if it comes down to that. Either way, this is a higher skill drop, but it’s worth it if you can stand your ground.
North part of Corny Crops
Arguably the best drop spot during season 8 is Corny Crops — specifically the house on the north side. But because it’s so good, it’s always busy, meaning you’ll need to be a skilled player to make it out alive. The northern house has several chests, including IO chests, lots of loot, and safes, and it’s practically in the center of the map. This means you can almost guarantee you’ll be within the first zone once the storm starts closing in, which can make your life easier. You can easily get stocked up on mid-tier gear within the first couple minutes of the match, along with full shields and health. From here, it’s easy to rotate around through the rest of Corny Crops, which has even more loot. Just be aware of how tricky it can be to consistently land here since it’s such a high-traffic area.
