Imphal, September 22 2021: The Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinfam Amadi Shaktam Kanba Lup (KNKSASKL) has categorically stated that the guideline formulated for opening the three Ima Keithel and temporary market at Paona and Thangal Keithels is not feasible.

Speaking to media persons at Ima Keithel, KNKSASKL president Thoudam (o) Shanti stated that about 20 vendors succumbed to Covid after reopening from months of closure due to the pandemic while many others were infected.

She further stated the representatives of KNKSASKL called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh to assess the Covid situation till mid-October before reopening the Keithels.

Asking who will implement the guidelines, Shanti stated that the modalities for reopening the Ima Keithel and some other temporary markers is not all practicable.

"Will the market goers and the vendors obey the Covid safety protocols while doing business and will it be possible to look after them round the clock," Shanti said and reminded that there are still Covid cases in Manipur.

She also condemned the Government for not consulting with the IMC officials and women of Ima Keithel before taking the decision.

Reportedly, Ima Keithel was empty as usual today with no business in sight though the Government has lifted the restriction on opening the keithel, subject to strict observation of Covid appropriate behaviour.
