Imphal, September 22 2021: Due to alleged failure of the government to properly maintain the roads, public and traders have started to mend the potholes dotted roads in some important locations without waiting for the government to wake up from its slumber.
Among such key routes in Imphal city is the Diamond Galli Road, which is only a few metres long on the western end of the Manipur Fire Service office that connects Governor Road with Paona Keithel road.
It is one of the busiest intersections in Pa-ona Keithel but for years, potholes of different sizes make it one of the most difficult road sections to cross.
Fed up of waiting for the government to act, local residents mended the section by laying shingles with their own expenses.
At the same time, a street in Uripok Sorbon Thingel Leirak on the north side of Uripok-Kangchup Road is also full of potholes making it difficult for commuters to pass.
As the possibility of government repairing the section of the street in the near future is uncertain, local people have been filling up the potholes from time to time to make it accessible.
Similarly, the Nag-amapal-RIMS Road and the Uripok-RIMS Road are also full of potholes but the government has not taken up any measures to repair these important roads so far.
