Imphal, September 22 2021: Special Judge NIA Manipur today rejected the bail application filed by Narengbam Samarjit, self proclaimed "external affairs and defence minister of Manipur State council and former chairman of Salai Group of Companies" .
The bail application was filed in April this year by Narengbam Samarjit (48) s/o (L) Jugindro of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai.
The Court heard the defence counsel, Special PP and perused the materials on record.
The Special PP submitted that NIA Guwahati Branch, on November 21, 2019, registered a case against Narengbam Samarjit and Yambem Biren, s/o (L) Thambalngou of Tera Khongsangbi Leimaram Leikai for allegedly announcing the separation of Manipur from India at London.
During the investigation it was revealed that the Salai Group had 'cheated' its investors with a promise of 36 percent annual returns on deposit.
However, due to the unsustainability of the scheme Narengbam Samarjit fled to London with the money of the depositors, the Special PP said and maintained that the NIA submitted a charge sheet against Narengbam Samarjit and his associates Yambem Biren, Elangbam Brojendro, Narengbam Biswajit and Akoijam Deepa Anand after investigation.
A non-bailable warrant of arrest was also issued against Narengbam Samarjit and Yambem Biren.
N Samarjit was detained by the officials of Bureau of Immigration at New Delhi International Airport on March 25 last.
He was brought to Manipur on March 29.The defence council of N Samarjit, on the other hand, submitted that the investigation has already been completed and his client has been falsely implicated.
The defence council also submitted that other co accused of the case have already been released on bail and Samarjit is ready to prove his innocence by facing trial.
After hearing the submission of both the parties, the Court observed that N Samarjit failed to pass the test for granting bail within parameters directed by the Supreme Court.
Hence, the Court rejected the bail application.
