Imphal, September 22 2021: Sayid Gyasuddin, a local from Lilong Atoukhong Khongmakhpng, has urged all concerned to stop spreading lies about Lilong AC MLA Antas Khan with regard to the ongoing construction of the mini-dam in Atoukhong, Lilong on social media platforms.
Speaking on the sidelines of an inspection carried out to take stock of the present situation of the mini dam jointly with the people and farmers of Lilong Ngangou area on Wednesday, Gyasuddin informed that CM N Biren laid the toundation stone for the mini-dam on December 23, 2018 with the aim of aiding in the irrigation of around 1200 paris of paddy land in Lilong Ngangou area, with the majority of the responsibility being undertaken by MLA Antas Khan.
However, it is unfortunate that some people with nefarious political agenda are trying to throw dirty water on the efforts of the MLA.
He recounted that the locals had urged the successive elected leaders of the AC to construct a dam in Lilong Ngangou area to address the water shortage problem, but the requests were repeatedly ignored by the leaders.
However, the CM Biren-led BJP government, after coming into power, took the grievances of the Lilong denizens to heart and instructed MLA Antas Khan for construction of the mini-dam immediately.
"The construction commenced in January, 2019 and has began supplying water to the nearby fields, thereby helping in increasing the yield not to mention of reducing occurrence of flash floods in the area," Sayid added.
Condemning the ill-intentioned social media posts made against Antas Khan by some unscrupulous people; Sayid said that the MLA had used his own private money for the first phase of the construction and thus, such wicked post against an elected representative is reprehensible.
Urging the government to look into the matter and initiate strict action against the person(s) responsible, Sayid informed that the MLA had already announced the mini-dam will be completed by end of September or by beginning of October and would be handed over to the people.
He then urged the people of Lilong AC not to unnecessary make "noise" with regard to the arrests of two people by police in connection with the social media posts.
"The dam could not be completed in time due to the pandemic.
Politicisation will only deter development," he commented, while adding that dishonest people should stop slinging mud.
