Volvo Buses has delivered 10 Volvo B8R 12-metre coaches to Odisha Government. Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha, has dedicated these 10 coaches to Odisha at a special event held in the capital city.
The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has also got this opportunity to get these buses through Volvo Buses India. According to Diptesh Kumar Pattanayak, IPS, Chairman cum Managing Director, OSRTC, the corporation is trying to deploy these premium buses on long routes starting from Odisha to adjoining states. The objective is to utilize the state’s strategic location to provide connectivity to the entire region. As per Akash Passey, President Bus Division, VECV, the coach has proven itself on diverse routes. He said that these buses will offer the highest levels of comfort and safety. The Euro-VI compliant coach is powered by Volvo’s proven 300HP, D8K six-cylinder, direct injection diesel engine.
An MoU has been signed on Skill Development with the OSRTC. According to Diptesh Kumar Pattanayak, IPS, OSRTC has invested in the skill development of the public transport landscape in the state. He also said that in order to spread its in-house program, it is important to get access to VECV’s knowledge-base and facilities. As per Akash Passey, the intention behind joining forces with a progressive organisation like the OSRTC is to continue the upskilling of the public transport community with the Indian and global practices.
Volvo Buses was established in 2001 and has been trying to bring changes in the industry since then. Some of the company’s major contributions include the true bus chassis concept, multi-axle coaches, the low floor city bus concept, commercialised hybrid bus, and the first 13.5m 4x2 coach.
