Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly keen to leave the club on loan in January, with the academy graduate yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils this season.
After making 13 appearances last season, many expected Henderson to be given the opportunity to impress again this campaign.
However, the 24-year-old has been suffering from long COVID and has been unable to feature so far this season.
In that time, David de Gea has been in brilliant form, which was highlighted by a fantastic penalty save to ensure United won their game against West Ham on Sunday.
According to The Sun, this has led to Henderson pondering a temporary move away from the club when the transfer opens in January.
Henderson has been at United since he was 14 and enjoyed two successful loan spells at Sheffield United, helping them to promotion from the Championship and then survival in the Premier League.
When he returned to the club at the start of last season, Henderson declared his intention to become United’s No.1 but added that he didn’t want to play second fiddle and risk regression.
“It wouldn’t be clever for me to sit around and not play football, I don’t think it would help any parties at all,” said the United shot-stopper in 2020.
“Listen, for me with Man United, David de Gea has obviously been a great goalkeeper first and foremost for many years and he’s been phenomenal.”
