Love Island is inspiring the nation to become barristers at home, according to data based on the cast's favourite beverage.

Waitrose has seen an unexpected increase in the demand for the ingredients necessary to make ice coffee since the drink became popular on ITV's hit reality show. 

Sales of ice have shot up by 75 per cent in comparison to this period last year, while the demand for milk alternatives has grown by 20 per cent each week since the start of Love Island.

The data shows oat milk has proven most popular with an increase of 40 per cent, while ready-to-drink iced coffee is also gaining a cult following with a surge of 40 per cent.

Waitrose has also spotted a four per cent increase in ground coffee and coffee bean sales ahead of the Love Island finals.

The supermarket believes it's possible the reality TV show is influencing purchasing decisions after an audience of around 3 million viewers became invested in watching male islanders show interest in the women with the effort they put into making them a morning coffee. 

Moreover, Instagram has been filled with fans showcasing their new-found skills for ice coffee making. 

A Waitrose spokesperson commented: 'Iced latte ingredients are always popular as the weather warms up and this summer was no different. The fact that coffees were such an integral and entertaining part of the show has definitely has a positive impact on sales.' 

Posting on Twitter, one viewer wrote: 'Can we deep Toby started this ice coffee thing and now it's a tradition. A true king #LoveIsland'

Another gushed: 'I need someone to bring me ice coffee every morning like the Love Island lot.' 

'I would like a boy to bring me an iced coffee while I lay in bed everyday like I'm on @LoveIsland,' another tweeted.   

Polly Astbury who is a coffee buyer at Waitrose said: 'The key to a good iced latte is remembering the ice will melt and dilute the coffee, so don't be scared to make it strong. 

'For the perfect iced latte, start by pouring your milk of choice into a glass full of cubed ice, then add a shot of good quality espresso and stir.

'Honey seems to be a popular sweetener in the villa, which is a great choice as it melts easily into the cold liquid without being grainy. If you're using sugar, make sure you mix it with the hot espresso before adding ice.'

Hugo Hammond, who was dumped from the Love Island villa in episode 34, recently took to TikTok to reveal his method for making ice coffee. 

The 22-year-old PE teacher racked up over 7 million views on the clip, demonstrating that he puts coffee, boiling water and honey in a glass, then stirs and adds soya milk.
