Chennai, Aug 24 (UNI) A five-year-old child from Kallakurichi
gave new lease of life for a few patients at MGM Healthcare
Chennai, through organ donation.
The child was admitted to a private hospital in Puducherry
after he was involved in a road traffic accident on August 19.
The child was then rushed to MGM Healthcare on August 22
for higher treatment. Despite the best efforts of the experts of
the clinical team, he was declared brain dead yesterday.
After an approved brain death certification and thorough
counselling of the family, the child’s family gave consent
to donate the child’s organs in order to save life of patients
suffering from end stage ailments.
The hospital sought approval from the Transplant Authority
of Tamilnadu (Transtan) and after approval, the team at MGM
Healthcare harvested the Heart, Lungs and Liver.
While MGM Healthcare has been allotted the heart and lungs
and Liver was dispatched to another hospital which had a
matching patient with Liver Failure, a hospital release
said today.
