Apple may have rejected this touchscreen feature for iPhone 13 series
NEW DELHI: Apple has tested and seems to have rejected, for now at least, in-display fingerprint reader for iPhones, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In its weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Apple won't add in-screen Touch ID to iPhone 13 series. "While Apple had tested in-screen Touch ID for the next flagship iPhones, it won’t make the cut this year. I believe Apple is all-in on Face ID for its higher-end iPhones and its long-term goal is to implement Face ID in the display itself," wrote Gurman.

Gurman has given possible ways Apple may go about Face ID and Touch ID in the future in iPhones:

* The expensive models could have in-screen Face ID, something similar to what Samsung offers in its latest high-end foldable phone, Galaxy Z3 Fold. In the low-end models, Apple may go for Face ID with notch.

* The high-end phones get in-screen Face ID, while the affordable models sport in-screen Touch ID.

Of course, one will get to know this only after the iPhone 13 series launches early next month. Apple is set to hold its annual iPhone event in September. While no dates have been announced so far. Apple's iPhone event traditionally happens on Tuesdays in the second week of September. The same falls on September 7 this year. Another date can be September 14, which is the second Tuesday of the month.

Apple iPhone 13 lineup is expected to come with at least three major new camera and video-recording features, as per other predictions made earlier by Gurman. According to him, these will be the key advancements in the devices over 2020 models -- of course other than the new processor.

Rumoured camera enhancements include a video version of the phone's Portrait mode feature and the ability to record video in a higher-quality format called ProRes. Speculations also suggest a new filter-like system that will improve the look and colors of photos.
