A creative mum-of-three has shared how she upcycled a second-hand buffet cabinet while in lockdown using products from Kmart and Bunnings Warehouse.

Sharing before and after images to a popular Facebook group, Tayler, 26, said she bought the cabinet for $100 and painted it using Dulux Lexicon Quarter paint.

The wooden piece of furniture originally looked outdated with a dark brown varnish and black circular handles, but Tayler transformed it into a stunning white coastal cabinet.

Detailing how she upcycled the cabinet, Tayler said she first 'took it all apart' then sanded the doors back slightly and patched the holes formed from the hinges.

She then painted the cabinet with primer and added three coats of Dulux paint on top once dried.

For an added touch, she replaced the glass on the side doors with rattan from Kmart and replaced the handles with new black handles bought from Bunnings.

The clever DIY encourages others to upcycle furniture while in lockdown rather than disposing of it.

How to transform an old cabinet:

Take the cabinet apart by removing the doors and shelves

Sand back the surface of the doors and the rest of the surface if needed – this will make the primer stick to the wood

Patch any holes from the hinges

Paint the whole cabinet with primer

Paint with Dulux paint – finish up to 3 coats and ensure the paint is dry every time before starting the next coat

Reassemble the cabinet

Replace handles if desired
