Odisha registers 80 new Covid-19 cases in 0-18 age group; 67 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 625 new Covid-19 cases including 80 ones between the age group of 0-18 years in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 10,02,323. While the number of positive cases reported August 23 was 761, it was 853 August 22.  The active caseload in the state now stands at 8,443 while it was 8,917 August 23. Out of the 625 new infections, 366 were reported from quarantine centres while 259 persons contracted the virus locally.

Odisha also reported 67 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking the toll in the state to 7,493. The state had reported 68 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday.

Cuttack reported highest 20 deaths. It was followed by Jagatsinghpur (14), Dhenkanal (eight), Jajpur (six), Balasore (five), Angul and Kendrapara (three each), Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj (two each), Keonjhar, Puri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur (one each).

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 214 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack district with 56 new infections. Notably, Khurda and Cuttack districts had reported 289 and 117 new cases respectively August 23.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Balasore (50), Jagatsinghpur (38), Jajpur (34), Puri (29), Angul, Keonjhar and Sambalpur (18 each), Rayagada (12), Koraput (11), Nayagarh (10), Kendrapara and Deogarh (nine each), Bhadrak (eight), Mayurbhanj (seven), Bargarh, Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Sundargarh (six each), Jharsuguda and Kalahandi (three each), Kandhamal and Gajapati (two each), Malkangiri and Nuapada (one each),

The State Pool reported 48 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive. It was 64 August 23.

A total of 1,75,98,024 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,032.
