Two militants killed in encounter with security forces in Sopore

Srinagar, Aug 24 (UNI) Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

A police official said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation was launched by Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir police, 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF at Pethseer in Sopore late last night.



All the exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches launched. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons at around 2345 hrs.



He said the security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter. “Two militants have been so far killed in the exchange of fire,” he said, adding that the operation was still going on when the reports last came in. Additional security forces have been deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any law and order problem.
