One Woolworths worker said the special discounts on fresh produce are carried out twice a day in her store.

'In my store, all markdowns for any fresh department - deli, meat, seafood and bakery - are to be done by 11am and a further one is done again at 4pm for things that have to be cleared by that day,' she wrote on Facebook.

Many supermarket employees agreed with her, saying the discounts on fresh food items are carried out twice a day at their stores.

'As far as I know, markdowns are completed before 11am and before 4pm except for bread which can vary depending on store size and production,' one worker said.

While another added: 'I was managing the fresh food department of Woolies... markdowns have to be done before 11am on meat, dairy, seafood and deli.'

However, one employee said: 'It's different in every store and it varies so much.'
