Gennova Biopharmaceuticals' COVID-19 vaccine has been found to be safe and effective in an early-stage study, according to India's drug regulator.
The company has been allowed to conduct further studies to test efficacy and other parameters. The Maharashtra-based pharmaceutical company plans to conduct a late stage trial at close to 25 sites in the country.
Gennova's vaccine production is partially funded by the Centre, which gives it access to the Ministry of Science and Technology's clinical trial network.
A government statement announcing the approval also added that the company will scale up its manufacturing capacity.
