New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) As comments by Union minister Narayan Rane against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray spiraled into a row, a Shiv Sena leader on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra demanding that Rane be expelled him from the Cabinet.
Rane, during a Jan Aashirvaad Yatra in Maharashtra's Raigad district yesterday, said: "It is shameful that the Chief Minister does not know the year of Independence. He had to enquire from his staff about the number of years of Independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap."
Shiv Sena MP and its leader in Lok Sabha, Vinayak Raut, wrote a letter to Modi and demanded that Rane should be sacked.
"The kind of language used by Rane is condemnable... If a minister forgets the dignity of his post and uses such language, he has no right to continue on that post," Raut said.
"What kind of message is he trying to give out to the society, is beyond my understanding. This is an insult to the Prime Minister of this country," the Shiv Sena MP said, urging Modi to dismiss Rane from his post.
Rane is the serving as the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
Rane was in Shiv Sena till 2005. He was expelled from the party, after which he joined Congress.
In 2017, he quit Congress and launched his own party - Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksha.
In 2018, he declared support to BJP and became a Rajya Sabha member. He formally joined the party in 2019, merging MSP with BJP.
