Two senior officials of the Northern Cape health department have been granted bail in a R43 million personal protective equipment (PPE) procurement fraud case.
Acting head of health Dr Dion Theys, 54, and chief financial officer Mosimanagape Daniel Gaborone, 52, made their first appearance in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday.
They were each granted bail of R20 000.
Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said they faced charges of fraud and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The men are accused of awarding PPE contracts to two companies in 2020 without following prescribed procurement procedures.
"A thorough probe by the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation team led to the arrests," said Mnisi.
The two will return to court on 27 September.
