Gurgaon: A gym trainer was allegedly shot at by his brother-in-law in Farrukhnagar on Sunday, seven years after he had eloped with the accused’s sister and married her against the family’s wishes.
Rajesh Saini, who also owns a gym in Farrukhnagar, was hit in the shoulder and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His brother-in-law, Sachin Kumar, is untraceable.
Police said Rajesh and his girlfriend from Rewari had eloped in 2014 after their families objected to their marriage over caste issues. The couple spent the next few months in different cities. When they eventually returned to Farrukhnagar after marriage, their families accepted them.
“My in-laws accepted me, but my brother-in-law didn’t. He would often threaten me with dire consequences. For years, I hoped he would accept our relationship eventually,” said Rajesh. Police said around 11.45pm on Sunday, Rajesh and his wife were fast asleep when the doorbell rang. Rajesh opened the door to find Sachin standing outside along with two of his friends. “He whipped out a gun and threatened to teach me a lesson. But before I could understand anything and raise an alarm, he caught my hand and tried to drag me out of the house. I ran for cover when he fired a shot. The bullet hit my shoulder,” said Rajesh.
A bleeding Rajesh ran inside a room and locked the door. When his wife rushed out, Sachin fled the spot. A case has been registered against Sachin under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) and relevant sections of the Arms Act at Farrukhnagar police station. “We are trying to trace the accused,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
