Woman critical after NSW police pursuit
A woman is in a critical condition after the car she was a passenger in collided head-on with a truck being pursued by police south of Wollongong.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was thrown out of the dual cab and hit by another car.
Police on Tuesday morning tried to stop the truck travelling north in the southbound lanes on the Princes Highway at Croom, about nine kilometres west of Shellharbour.
When the truck did not stop police pursued it.
The truck then collided head-on with a dual cab in which the woman was a passenger.
She was treated at the scene before being airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The truck driver, a man aged in his 40s, was not injured.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident which will be subject to independent review.
