Palm saplings planted on Manikandam tank bunds near Trichy

TRICHY: Trichy district collector S Sivarasu launched a palmyra sapling plantation drive on the bunds of the Manikandam big tank on Monday.
Organised by NGO Shine TREEchy, around 1,000 palmyra saplings were planted. Volunteers and college students were involved in the drive.
The NGO has identified other public tanks in rural administrative blocks to raise the official tree of the state. “We have mobilised sufficient palmyra seeds to continue the plantation drive in a phased manner in different places,” D Manoj, organiser of the plantation drive, said.
