New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday set September 15 deadline for IT major Infosys to fix the glitches in the income tax e-filing portal.
The Minister sought an explanation from Infosys for the repeated issues faced by taxpayers.
In meeting with company MD and CEO Salil Parekh, she conveyed the deep disappointment and concerns of the Government and the taxpayers about the continuing glitches in the e-filing portal even after two and half months since its launch, which was also delayed.
As per an official statement from Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the Finance Ministry asked the IT company to put in more resources and efforts so that the much delayed delivery of agreed services is ensured.
Parekh was also sensitized on the difficulties that the taxpayers were facing and the problems that are arising on account of the delays in the functioning of the portal.
"Hon’ble Finance Minister demanded that the issues faced by taxpayers on current functionalities of the portal should be resolved by the team by 15th September, 2021 so that taxpayers and professionals can work seamlessly on the portal," the statement said.
During the meeting with the Finance Minister, Parekh said that over 750 team members were working on the portal and company COO Pravin Rao was personally overseeing the project.
Parekh noted that Infosys was working expeditiously to ensure a glitch-free experience to the taxpayers on the portal.
