A Bihar teenager was shot dead on Monday morning by some miscreants for allegedly asking Rs 10 boat fare. The incident took place in Banbhaura village of Bithan police station area, Samastipur district. The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Sikal Yadav, son of Om Prakash Yadav of the village itself.
Due to the flood in the village, the area where the incident occurred is submerged in water. The victim used to row boats and help people commute from one place to another, said police.
The police in its initial probe learned that the boy had a verbal spat with the miscreants over the fare and had turned into a brutal fight on Sunday afternoon. The villagers and other people travelling on his boat saved the boy on Sunday, added police.
The officer further added that on Monday morning when the teenager was standing in front of his house a few unknown men opened fire on him. The boy died at the incident site due to fatal bullet injuries, said the officer.
As soon as the incident was reported, Bithan Station House Officer Mohd. Khushbuddin said the police has started probe into the incident. Simultaneously, the person who shot the bullet is being identified. Police have taken the body in possession and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The SHO said that as soon as the application is received by the family, the accused will be arrested.
According to the victim’s relatives, he was contributing to the family income by rowing a boat. The family don’t know with whom and why he picked up a fight. He is usually a very cool-headed person, said the victim’s cousin.
