India keen to expand horizon of NDB: Minister Goyal

India recently expressed its desire to expand the horizon of the New Development Bank (NDB) and utilise resources to strengthen social infrastructure and promote the industrial sector at the 5th meeting of BRICS industry ministers, who expressed their intention to collaborate with NDB. The meeting was chaired by Indian commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal.

BRICS countries include Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa.

The ministers reiterated their commitment to make efforts to foster an open, fair and non-discriminatory trade environment, ensure greater participation in global value chains, promote digital inclusion, assess the implications and encourage the progressive, safe, equitable and sustainable use of disruptive technologies for advancing growth, an official release from the Indian government said.

They appreciated the need for adopting the emerging new technologies in a swiftly changing world and recognised this as an important tool for modernisation and transformation of the industry, promotion of inclusive economic growth, thus helping BRICS national economies to meet UN Sustainable Development Goals.
