Chain-snatching cases: 3 including receiver of stolen material held

Margao: Stating that three persons have been arrested in a series of chain-snatching cases including a receiver of stolen property, South Goa Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Singh on Sunday said that police are likely to recover the gold ornaments.

He said that the accused is involved in more than 10 chain-snatching incidents reported across Goa.

The trio arrested persons are Mohd Sarfaraz (21) of Davorlim, Ajay alias Rooney (24) of Ponda, a native of Belgaum and the receiver Lilesh Lotlikar of Borda-Margao. The receiver of stolen property was produced before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Margao and three days remand has been taken.

SP South Goa Singh said that the high-end bike used in the crime has been recovered.

According to sources in police PSI Deepesh Shetkar has registered an offence at Maina-Curtorim police station under sections 379, 456 and 411 of IPC.

While PSI Jaidep Amre of call monitoring cell, South Goa provided his assistance in providing the location and movement of the accused persons and all accused were brought and interrogated and remanded to police custody.

Police sources said that motorcycle used by the accused to snatch away the chains is yet to be recovered and a team of Maina-Curtorim police will be sent to Belgavi to bring back the said motorcycle.

Two of the accused arrested earlier were produced before JMFC, Margao and six days remand has been taken.

Police investigation has revealed that the two accused have not only committed snatching cases in Salcete but in other parts of the state and they will be handed over to those police stations where such offences have been reported.

Maina-Curtorim police said that 28-year-old girl was proceeding from Chandor towards Curtorim on her scooter and when she reached near primary health centre, two motorcycle-borne youth chased her and one of them snatched a gold chain from her neck. She lost the control and fell on the ground however escaped with injuries, said police.
