Eric Stonestreet is engaged! Modern Family star pops the question to Lindsay Schweitzer and jokes 'She said, "She'd have her people call my people"'

Modern Family funnyman is officially engaged after popping the question to Lindsay Schweitzer.

The 49-year-old actor shared a trio of snaps with his now-fiancée who showed off a stunning sparkler and joked of the proposal: 'She said, "She'd have her people call my people."'

Stonestreet and the pediatric nurse first met at a charity event in 2016 and it was confirmed they were dating a year later. This will be his first marriage.

All three snaps exuded his usual sense of humor as he intentionally wore a nervous look on his face while holding her left hand to his chest.

The brunette beauty beamed with happiness as she showed off an oval shaped diamond with a slight halo and two baguettes on the side.

In a second snap he sweetly smiled at her and placed his hand around her back, and in a third he very animatedly pointed to the diamond with his mouth ajar.

And naturally the sitcom star received congratulatory comments from famous friends including former Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel who wrote 'YES' and Chuck star Zachary Levi who wrote 'Congrats duuuuuude!!!!'

Famed crooner Michael Buble wrote 'Congrats you beautiful couple you.'

And makeup mogul Bobbi Brown even teased assisting them on their wedding day as she wrote: 'I'll be there to get the bride ready. And the groom.'

Eric — who rose to fame as Cam on the hit ABC sitcom over the course of a decade — first met Schweitzer at the Big Slick charity event in his native Kansas City in 2016.

A source had previously told PEOPLE: 'They are very happy to have met each other. They're enjoying spending time together.'

And in a 2017 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show he confessed: 'She calms me — she calms my nerves. I'm a very high-strung person.'

He had previously had a longtime girlfriend by the name of Katherine Tokarz who he split from in 2012.
