Accused activists seek default bail claiming sessions court had no jurisdiction

Seven activists and academics accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case told the Bombay High Court on Monday the Pune sessions court, which remanded them to custody following their arrest and also took cognisance of the police's chargesheet in 2019, had no jurisdiction to do so and sought a default bail.

The petitioners are Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Vernon Gonsalves, and Arun Ferreira.

ED files chargesheet against Anil Deshmukh's aides in money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday submitted its prosecution complaint (equivalent to chargesheet) against two aides of former Maharashtra home minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh in connection with a money laundering case before a special court here.

The chargesheet was filed before the special court assigned to hear matters related to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Deshmukh's private secretary (an additional collector-rank officer) Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde.

BJP's Somiaya accuses CM's aide of CRZ violations in bungalow construction

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Monday demanded action against the Shiv Sena's Milind Narvekar, a close aide of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, for alleged CRZ violations connected to the construction of a bungalow in Ratnagiri district.

Somiaya said Narvekar had himself demolished the bungalow, located in Murud in Dapoli taluka, over 215 kilometres from here, but the administration still needed to take action by filing an FIR under Environment Act, CRZ Regulations, the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act as well as the IPC.

Three held for allegedly trashing vegetable vendor in Mumbai's Matunga

Three people were arrested for allegedly thrashing a vegetable vendor in Matunga on Sunday. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera inside the shop.

The arrested accused have been identified as Uday Kumar Nadar, Balkrishna Nadar and Ramesh. Matunga Police Station has arrested the three accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"Actually, Uday Nadar himself had taken this vegetable shop on rent earlier and the victim used to work with him," said the police.
