Katie Price appears on the latest series of Celebrity MasterChef

Katie Price shocks herself on Celebrity MasterChef by not making a total hash of it – leaving her vowing to cook more in the future.

The glamour model mum-of-five looks horrified when she is handed a crab and told to make a dish out of it. “The trouble with this show is you’re not allowed to use tinned stuff,” she complains.

But after bashing its shell in with a mallet – which she says feels like “an autopsy” – she impresses judge John Torode with her crab noodles with garlic and chilli.

She is up against presenter Joe Swash, ex footballer Dion Dublin, actor Melissa Johns and furniture expert Will Kirk, in the show.

The bar is set low as Joe admits: “I give my kids enough nourishment to keep them alive. But they love going for dinner at other people’s houses.” And after Repair Shop star Will serves up raw chicken on his first dish, the other contestants relax.

But Katie has a nightmare with her dumplings in the second round when she fails to cook them through, despite two attempts. “They are so shocking I’m not going to put them on the plate,” she laments. “It’s not like I didn’t put the effort in, I really did put in the effort, right til the last minute.”

By the third round, when they are asksed to serve up something they’d make for a dinner party, her toad in the hole goes well. “It’s messy – story of my life” she laughs. “I know it’s a competition but I”ve actually enjoyed it,” she declares, looking flabbergasted. “I would cook more if I knew what I was doing.”

Feeling proud of her effort she adds: “I am pleased, considering everyone takes the mickey out of me saying ‘ah, she can’t cook’ – it obviously shows I can, a little bit.”

In the third challenge Will serves up raw poultry for a second time, so the chances of him surviving into the next round look slim.
