Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy in their DStv Premiership opener at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
It was a third competitive match in three weeks for Amakhosi after their Carling Black Label Cup win and MTN8 quarter-final loss.
But it was Galaxy who had the best of the early running, with Wayde Lekay coming as close as anyone to scoring in the first 45 minutes.
It was much the same after the break, but Khama Billiat wasted a glorious chance to score with 20 minutes of the match remaining as he fluffed his shot.
Galaxy had started brightly with Sihle Nduli trying his luck from 35 yards before his strike was blocked.
Tshegofatso Nyama forced a save from Bruce Bvuma from an effort that was heading into the bottom-right corner of the net.
Kgaogelo Sekgota was off target with his drive on 16 minutes as Lekay fired just over the Chiefs' goal on 21 minutes, to leave Bvuma scrambling.Samir Nurkovic 's soft header was easily collected by Galaxy stopper Vasilije Kolak while efforts either side of the pitch, from Phathutshedzo Nange and Augustine Kwem were well wide of the mark. The half ended with Daniel Cardoso heading wide from a late corner, as Lekay again tried to hit the mark from range, this time in the 50th minute, only to fire wide.Chiefs were showing signs of improvement and Billiat really should have buried a Nange pass with 68 minutes on the clock, but failed to properly connect with the ball. But it was Galaxy who ended the stronger of the two sides, with Mohammed Anas seeing his 77th-minute chance saved before Luckyboy Mokoena hit his powerful shot just off target.
