Union minister Raosaheb Danve claimed on sunday that the Railways has lost 36,000 crore due to the coronavirus pandemic, adding that freight trains are the national transporter's real revenue generators. The minister of State for Railways was speaking at the Jalna railway station's foundation stone laying ceremony for an underbridge. "The passenger train sector is continually losing money. We are unable to do so since raising ticket prices has an adverse effect on travellers. The Railways faced losses of 36,000 crores during the pandemic "he stated.

"Only freight trains bring in money. These trains were crucial in transporting products and delivering relief to individuals during the pandemic "Added he.

Mr Danve also cited a bullet train project that is now under construction along the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway. This project, he said, would be implemented along the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway since it is "essential for people." Mr Danve said, "The Railways has initiated the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project, which would connect Navi mumbai and Delhi." He also promised that tracks between Nanded and Manmad stations would be doubled and that he would investigate if the Jalna-Khamgaon railway route was viable.

Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra's health minister, who was also present at the ceremony, announced that the state government has approved the construction of a mental health hospital in Jalna. The facilities, he claimed, would be beneficial to the Marathwada region.
