Around 2,000 evacuees from Kabul arrive in Ramstein air base in Germany

Berlin, Aug 21 (UNI) Around 2,000 evacuees from Kabul arrived at the Ramstein US Air Base in southwestern Germany which has been transformed into a temporary transit point for Afghans being taken to the US, officials said here on Saturday.
Ramstein, one of the largest US air bases outside America, is part of America’s efforts to evacuate its nationals and Afghans from Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.
Other countries -- including Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Australia -- have also evacuated hundreds of their own nationals and Afghans out of Afghanistan.
Separately, Germany’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Markus Potzel has been holding talks in Doha, with representatives of the Taliban, for enabling the Afghans to leave the country and ensuring security. He will continue his talks with international partners, the German Foreign Office tweeted.
