Nanded, Aug 20 (UNI) “It is the first responsibility of the state to prove the social backwardness of the Maratha community first. And it is the responsibility of the Center to change the phrase 'rare and inaccessible' and give reservation from a geographical point of view”, stated MP Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Bhosale, today.
Criticizing both of the governments Bhosale said that they should stop ball-playing and give justice to the community by giving reservation. The center and the state government should discharge their responsibilities regarding granting reservation to the Maratha community in education and services, he appealed.
He addressed the huge congregation of the Maratha people organized jointly by the Maratha Kranti Morcha and Sakal Maratha Samaj here. To press their various demands various Maratha associations jointly organised a mute procession on the collectorate.
The state government filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court after the reservation was canceled. But nothing was pursued for that, he alleged. Stating “If I had not been allowed to speak, I would have left the Parliament”, Sambhaji Raje elaborated the neglecting attitude of the government to the issue. “It is clear that when your reservation is canceled, you will have to prove that you are socio-economically backward. It is the responsibility of the state to prove this. In the 127th Amendment, the Center gave the state the right to make reservations. But as per the Indra Sahni Case decision the government cannot cross the limit of reservation above 50 per cent. Therefore, the limit should be extended first,” he added.
The programme began with offering garlands to the images of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Shahu Raje.
Under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar Shewale, the traffic was diverted on various roads from 6 am to allow the protesters to reach the venue easily. The Maratha community had arranged fruits on various roads for the agitating activists.
At the outset Madhav Deosarkar spoke on behalf of the district and Rajendra Kandhare on behalf of the state. The presence of women at this time was also significant. The movement concluded with the national anthem.
