Rajasthan: 3-year-old among 5 buried under sand in Jalore

JODHPUR: As many as five persons, including a 3-year-old girl, died after being buried under sand at a newly constructed site of a Granite factory in Jalore on Friday evening. All the victims were labourers, who had been digging a pit for foundation. A girl playing around the site also fell victim to the mishap.
The injured were taken out following a rescue operation and were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared brought dead. Two of them were locals, while two others including the girl, were from Baran district and working as labourers on the site.
According to the information, the incident took place in Bhagli industrial area of Granite processing units on the outskirts of Jalore, where work for a new factory was under process.
“These workers were engaged in digging a pit for foundation and a water tank at the factory site. At about 4pm, some of the workers came out to have tea while the four workers continued working in the pit. Suddenly, a pile of sand fell on these workers and all of them got buried under it. A girl, who was playing around, also got buried in the sand,” said a police official.
As the information spread, officials from police and administration rushed to the spot along with the office bearers of Granite association and a rescue operation was initiated.
It took a little over half an hour to exhume all the five victims and they were rushed to the hospital. But all of them were declared dead by that time.
