Gurgaon: Residents woke up to a pleasant morning on Friday, with the minimum temperature recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius. Several parts of the city received light
rain and intermittent drizzle accompanied by strong winds during the day bringing down the mercury level by five notches.
Light but sporadic rain has kept the daytime temperature low which settled at 29 degrees Celsius, while the relative humidity index oscillated between 91% and 92%.
IMD’s observatory in the city only recorded ‘trace’ rainfall till 5.30 pm, but the data from the district administration showed that Gurgaon received 6.5 mm rainfall during the day. No major
waterlogging was witnessed in the city and traffic largely remained unaffected due to the rain. However, some areas, including sectors 52, 56, DLF-1, faced outages for long hours.
“The light to moderate rain is likely to continue for the next 2-3 days and there is a possibility of an intense rain on Saturday. Thereafter there will be gradual decrease in the rainfall activities in the region. Gurgaon has been receiving light rain during the last two days resulting in a sharp fall in daytime temperature on Friday. The maximum temperature is likely to remain below normal for the next two days.” an IMD official said.
According to the IMD’s weekly forecast, the minimum and maximum temperature is likely to hover around 25 and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Saturday.
The city’s air quality improved slightly but remained in the moderate category. The overall AQI reading was at 167 as compared to 188 on Thursday. Delhi received light
showers on Friday with overcast conditions bringing the maximum temperature down to 32.8 degrees Celsius – one degree below normal for this time of the season. Some parts also recorded an intense but short spell of rain in the morning.
Safdarjung, Delhi’s base station, recorded 11mm of rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Friday. Till 8.30am on Friday, Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory had just received 63.2mm of rainfall, as opposed to a normal mark of 176.5mm for this period. This puts Delhi at a deficit of 64% this month.
