'I still love and care for him': Love Island's Liberty reveals she made the right decision ending with Jake and would hate to brand him 'emotionally abusive'

Liberty Poole has revealed she made the right decision ending with boyfriend Jake Cornish despite still loving and caring for him.

Liberty, 21, made a shock exit from the Love Island villa during Friday's episode alongside Jake, 24, and disclosed to The Sun that he didn't fight for their relationship - admitting there were several comments that left her feeling hurt.

The ex-couple, labelled 'Jiberty' by fans, were together since day one of this year's hit reality series and at one point were bookies' favourites to win.

However, their once plain-sailing relationship hit a rocky patch when producers showed the Nando's waitress a clip of Jake revealing he did not fancy her enough to 'rip her clothes off'.

Liberty admitted that the clip did hurt her, going so far as saying she swept it under the carpet before one thing led to another - and their communication went rapidly downhill.

'I was in love with Jake. And, of course, I still love and care for Jake. You don't end things then just get over someone like that.

But I think, in the long run, I made the right decision. You have to put your own feelings first and to make yourself happy. And that is what I have done,' she said.

A strong head on her shoulders, the Brummie beauty reflected on their seven-week romance - with four of these weeks being in an official relationship with the water engineer.

This week, Lib grew increasingly worried that she was giving him the 'ick' after Jake made comments about her 'messiness' - but she rightly-so revealed she won't be changing for anyone.

'There wasn’t enough reassurance. I did the right thing. I do think Jake is a genuine guy. I would hate to say he was emotionally abusive. It was in the heat of the moment and the energy was off.

'We were going up and then down and I don’t feel like a relationship should feel like that. There were comments said that just didn’t sit right with me.

'I don’t want to feel like I’m annoying someone. I want to feel in love with someone and that that love is returned. The way it was going it wasn’t being returned,' she confessed.

When asked whether she believed the viewers' concerns were correct, she responded that 'only Jake' could answer that question.

Liberty continued to stand by the fact their connection was genuine and also added she had 'no regrets' sleeping with him because of this.

On the final four couples, Liberty believes that Kaz and Tyler 'have a genuine connection and just bounce off each other', Teddy loves 'every part' of Faye, Chloe and Toby's sexual chemistry is 'mad' and Millie and Liam are 'soulmates.'
