London, Aug 20 (UNI) England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan believes his team need to play in the same consistent way as it has over the last two years, knowing that only their best will be enough against world class sides in the upcoming men's T20 World Cup.
England will face defending champions West Indies in their first match of the tournament on October 23.
Claiming the Cricket World Cup in 2019 at home, England have the chance to become the first men’s team to hold both the 50-over event trophy and the T20 World Cup at the same time.
'I think our biggest strength is the consistency which we’ve performed at over the last two years,' said Morgan in an ICC release.
'I think in T20 cricket because the game can change quite quickly and there’s a huge group of talented teams within our group, I think every game is important to us,' he added.
England suffered heart-breaking defeat against West Indies in the finals of 2016 T20 World Cup. However, since then they have formed an all-conquering white ball outfit.
For Morgan, the significance of the T20 World Cup has only grown over time, and his side are champing at the bit to go one better in 2021.
'The evolution of T20 cricket and the role it’s played in our great game is hugely significant for the development of the game and the popularity of the game,' the England captain said.
'It’s huge. It’s been a long time coming. We haven’t had one since 2016,' he added.
While boasting an imperious home record, England have not featured in T20I action in UAE since 2015, and for Morgan, adapting to the foreign conditions and utilising them to best effect in UAE will be the final ingredient for success.
'I think we’re gathering momentum nicely, and I think the important side to that from our perspective is that we’re continuously trying to get better and learn as we go on, simply because the tournament is held away from home,' he said.
'We’re really looking forward to it,' he added.
