The labourers were taken for the work of Samruddhi Mahamarg highway project.

Twelve labourers died after the truck they were traveling in met with an accident in Maharashtra’s Buldana district on Friday.

“At least 12 labourers died after the truck they were traveling in turned turtle near Dusarbid village in Sindkhed Raja tahsil on Friday morning,” said Buldana Superintendent of Police Arvind Chawaria.

He added, “The truck was carrying iron bars and was deployed for the work of Samruddhi Mahamarg. The temporary road built for ferrying material to the site has become slushy. As a result, the truck leaned on one side and lost balance. It fell inside the adjoining 15-feet deep part of the land, trapping the labourers under it. While some died on the spot, some died later in a hospital in Jalna.”

All the labourers were from Madhya Pradesh, said the SP.
