Police bust gang which took cars on rent from Pune residents, sold them off in other states

Police have recovered 13 four-wheelers which the three accused had allegedly sold in Telangana and other states.

Pune City Police have arrested a gang of car thieves who allegedly took cars on rent from Pune residents, and then sold the vehicles in other states.

Police have identified the accused as Malik Baba Shah alias Mujahid Gilani (38), Omkar Watane (28), and Mohammed Mohammad Bashir Uddin (48).

Gilani had allegedly told a cab driver in Pune that he worked for a company in Uttar Pradesh. Police said that between March 15 and July 27 this year, Gilani took 28 cars from the cab driver and other Pune residents on assurances of providing them good income in return. But later he and his accomplices allegedly removed the GPS installed in these cars and escaped with them.

An offence of cheating was lodged in this case at the Loni Kalbhor police station. The crime branch has initiated a parallel probe into this matter.
