Extremely heavy showers are also predicted over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar during the next 4-5 days.
Towards the south, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will experience rains from today onwards. Kerala, Mahe and Andhra Pradesh will also witness heavy showers on Saturday. Widespread showers are likely to continue over the entire southern peninsula for the next 5 days, and reduce its intensity thereafter.
Favorable weather conditions are likely to bring more rain to the Nashik district of north Maharashtra and coastal Palghar near Mumbai in the next 24 hours while the rest of the state would receive moderate showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday evening.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rains, ranging from 64.5 mm to 204.4 mm, in four districts in western Madhya Pradesh even as showers continued to lash large parts of the state.
The IMD also issued two separate yellow alerts warning of heavy rains, a thunderstorm and lightning strikes in the 28 districts of the state.
All three alerts are valid till Sunday morning, an IMD official said. (PTI)

One Army jawan died and a few others were injured during a supervised training activity at Mamun military station near Pathankot in Punjab on Saturday as the weather conditions were "severe", said senior officials.

In the early hours of Saturday, traffic movement was closed in several parts of Delhi including Minto Bridge, Moolchand underpass, Pul Prahladpur underpass, Kashmere Gate, Mundka, Nangloi, Azad market. Waterlogging has also been reported near several metro stations in Central and West Delhi.

The Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker for Delhi, recorded 139 mm rainfall, while the Ridge Station registered 149.2 mm rainfall from 8.30 am on Friday to 8.30 am on Saturday. This is the highest one-day rain for the month of the August in at least 13 years. The all-time highest rainfall was 184 mm on August 2, 1961.
Moderate rainfall continued through the Friday night in Mumbai and the suburbs as more rainfall is predicted for today. A move by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to develop the Mallathahalli Lake in west Bengaluru with elements like bridges and a glasshouse on the lake bed has drawn the ire of environmental activists.
The BBMP floated a Rs 51-crore tender on Thursday calling for proposals to conceive and construct rail bridges, hanging bridges, walkways and a glasshouse at the 72-acre Mallathahalli Lake in the BBMP’s Raja Rajeshwari Nagar division. The national capital saw a warm Friday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 27.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.
The relative humidity was recorded at 81 per cent at 8.30 am. The weather office has forecast generally cloudy skies for the day with the possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers towards the evening or night.
