Latham bolsters Singapore practice with new hires

The US firm gears up to welcome new opportunities with the joining of the trio from Shearman and Freshfields

The US law firm Latham & Watkins has inducted new faces in its Singapore office to gear up to welcome new opportunities in the region.

Latham has announced that Sidharth (Sid) Bhasin, James Clayton-Payne and Don Stokes have joined the firm as partners in the energy and infrastructure industry group in Singapore. They make up for the loss of three senior lawyers who opted to quit it in the recent past.

While both Bhasin and Clayton-Payne were associated with Shearman & Sterling, Stokes has joined Latham after spending two decades at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Bhasin and Clayton-Payne focus in the energy and infrastructure sector on inbound and outbound transactions, joint ventures, take-overs, strategic investments, restructurings, divestments and private equity exits. Stokes advises clients on project development and finance.

Latham's team had got depleted in Singapore after Andrew Roche quit Latham to join Ashurst in February and counsels Tim Fourteau and Jamie Franklin joined White & Case earlier this year.

With the joining Latham, it now has 13 partners in Singapore which has become a key international arbitration centre over the years.
