CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman should thank Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin for enhancing the revenue of the Union government by ₹1,200 annually by reducing petrol price by ₹3 per litre, said finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.
From August1 to13, the average sales of petrol was 91,88,000 litres per day. After the reduction of petrol price, the average sales were 1,03,17,000 litre. On an average, the sale of petrol increased by 11.29 lakh litre per day, accounting for 12% rise, from August 14.
It enhanced the revenue of the Union government by ₹3.55 crore per day. It was not sure whether this trend would continue, the minister said while replying to the debate on the revised budget 2021-2022 on Thursday.
If this trend continues, the union government would get additional revenue of ₹1,200 crore annually. And it would be appropriate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to thank chief minister M K Stalin for this, he added.
