    knee pain doing squats

    Hi,

I am getting frustrated with squats, I normally work up to around 100KG for reps then I start to get random knee pain which manifests a few days after meaning I have to go back to basics and check form etc which is normally fine.

its like a dull ache kind of behind the top part of my kneecap on my left knee, it hurts when I warm up and does eventually go away as soon as I'm warmed up but it takes a while to get there. it also aches throughout the day at random intervals

I have had people check my form and apart from making sure I don't overarch my lower back when going down in the squat and push out my left knee a bit more when coming up my form is apparently fine.

I have tried to keep my knee in line with my toes which i can manage with the bar but as soon as i put weight on i really struggle and end up losing balance and my toes come up or i go to fall backwards.

I have heard that doing hip thrusts before squats may help so I have just started doing that, any tips?

I do leg curls and calf raises before any and all quad compounds nowadays. It definitely seems to help. (Not to mention you stimulate more muscle growth).

I’m gonna add machine hip adductions/abductions to my lower warm ups as well starting tomorrow. Gets the adductors and smaller glute muscles fired up.

Do you have knee pain any other time or just from squats?

Have you tried putting something under your heels? The balance issue you are having is a big red flag that you're doing something wrong with your form. Can you post a video?
