NOIDA: The Noida Authority is all set to complete some of its major infrastructure projects in the next three to four months.
These include the much-awaited Sector 71 underpass which will be ready by August 31 but is expected to be opened for traffic by September 15.
It will ease the flow of traffic from Wave City Centre Metro Station to Greater Noida (west).
Similarly, the 840-metre four-lane underpass in Kondli in Sector 148 — located 19.40km from Mahamaya flyover — on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is nearly 80% complete and expected to be functional by November-end-December. The other two underpasses in Sector 142 and some 2.3km from Mahamaya flyover are also about 60% complete.
Other projects to be delivered by September include the indoor stadium in Sarfabad area being built at an estimate cost of Rs 54 crore and the 18-acre Butterfly Park in Sector 117.
While the Sector 142 and Sector 148 underpass projects along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are expected to improve accessibility of the sectors on both sides of the high-speed corridor, the Sector 71 underpass is crucial to connect Noida’s Wave City Centre Metro Station with Parthala crossing towards Greater Noida (West) in a seamless manner.
Chief general manager of the Noida Authority, Rajeev Tyagi said, “The underpass connecting sectors 51, 52, 71 and 72 will be ready by August-end but will be thrown open for public use by mid-September once the road designing and planning are properly done at the intersection. Similarly, we are confident of completing the two underpass projects on the expressway by mid-December. These are coming up close to the Advant Navis building in Sector 142 and near Kondli close to the Sector 148 metro station.”
Officials said that the Kondli underpass is nearly 80% complete, while work on the other two underpasses — near Sectors 142 metro station and 2.3km from Mahamaya flyover — are nearly 60% complete.
“For all these, we are using the box pushing technique of construction, where prefabricated concrete boxes are placed and pushed against each other to reinforce a structure. After that, retaining walls are built to complete the structure,” said a senior official.
A resident of Bajidpur near Sector 135, Puran Singh said, “Underpasses are required to improve the access to the other side of the city and to Greater Noida. We have to cover a distance of seven to eight km to turn towards Greater Noida at present.”
Similarly, the indoor stadium in Sarfabad and the 18-acre Butterfly Park in Sector 117, which includes a cricket pitch and 48 shops, an open-air amphitheatre and an open parking lot for about 220 cars, are ready for inauguration. “These are expected to be opened to the public by September,” said the official.
