Pernem murder case cracked, Gujarat native held

CCTV footage, mobile phone tracking helped crack case

Mapusa: Around one-and-half-month after Chandrakant Bandekar from Sakral in Pernem was found murdered in forest area at Patradevi, Goa police cracked the case after intensive investigation and have arrested the accused from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

It may be recalled that on July 2 this year, a body with multiple stab injuries was found along with a scooter at Patradevi. The deceased was identified as Chandrakant Bandekar from Sakral in Pernem. Police had registered a murder case and were investigating.

During investigation, police undertook extensive checking of CCTV footage in the locality and border check-post area which further resulted in a lead as a CCTV camera had captured footage of the deceased Bandekar giving a lift to a pedestrian who was proceeding towards Patradevi following which many persons were interrogated. Police further learnt that the deceased’s mobile phone, wallet containing cash and gold chain was missing and the mobile phone of the deceased was put under continuous surveillance.

Police further said that the stolen phone was activated in Amravati region in Maharashtra this month and accordingly a team of Pernem police staff and Crime Branch staff left for Amravati-Maharashtra.

Police further informed that the user of the mobile phone was traced at Badnera in Amravati with the help of local police. During inquiry, he informed that he had purchased the phone from another person from Ahmedabad-Gujarat. Subsequently, the police team left for Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Police with the help of local police said a person was traced who further informed that the said mobile phone was given to him by his friend Jaypuri Gosai who also stays with him in his rented room following which police took Gosai into custody and during interrogation, he admitted to committing the crime.

The weapon of assault, mobile phone and the gold chain in melted form is recovered by the police. The accused was brought to the Pernem police station and is under police custody. 

The entire investigation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police North Shobhit Saksena led by SDPO Mapusa  Gajanan Prabhudesai, SDPO Bicholim Sandesh Chodankar, PI Jivba Dalvi, PI Rahul Parab, PI Laxi Amonkar, PI Vidyanand Pawar, PSI Sanjit Kandolkar, PSI Vivek Halarnkar, PSI Praful Giri along with head constables Irshad Vatange and Gurudas Mandrekar and police constables Sudesh Matkar and Arjun Kandolkar. Pernem police is further investigating the case.
