Oppo is a name that is primarily known for releasing smartphones but it also invests money in camera technology innovations. It showcased next-gen under-display camera tech last month. And now, Oppo has demonstrated a couple of camera tech innovations that are expected to become available commercially in the near future.

One of the most noteworthy techs is a 5-axis optical image stabilization system aka 5-axis OIS. This particular tech makes use of both lens shifting and camera shifting for achieving better results. It will specifically be beneficial in low-light and nighttime shots where vibration compensation performance is claimed to be better by 65%. This new OIS tech is expected to make its commercial debut during Q1 2022.

Oppo is further working on a new optical zoom tech called Continuous Optical Zoom. It is still like your traditional periscope zoom tech but the lens elements move between the 85mm and 200mm zoom range. There is a tunnel magnetoresistance sensor to ensure that the whole movement stays accurate. This will eventually lead to high-quality images at every focal length and that too without relying on any digital workarounds like cropping and digital zoom.

Lastly, there is a new Oppo camera sensor featuring an RGBW sub-pixel layout i.e. Red, Green, Blue, and White. It is claimed to be capable of capturing more light (up to 60%) and reduced noise (up to 30%). It is expected to debut on smartphones starting the fourth quarter of 2021.
