Union Minister Subhash Sarkar has courted controversy by making a statement about Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He said at an event at Visva Bharati University in West Bengal on Wednesday that Rabindranath Tagore's mother had refused to accept him in her lap because he was black.

He further said that Tagore was black in comparison to other members of his family while other members were quite fair in complexion, hence Tagore's mother and others refused to adopt him.

Speaking about Tagore, Sarkar said that there are two types of fair skin, one is slightly yellow and the other is red in color. Tagore had a different skin type. That's why his mother did not take him in her lap. Although the same person won the world for India.

Senior TMC leader Anubrata Mandal said on this issue that Union Minister Subhash does not know anything about Rabindranath Tagore and hence he is defaming him. How does Subhash Sarkar know all this? Was he born before Tagore?

Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali writer and Nobel laureate. In fact, he was also the founder of Visva Bharati University where Subhash Sarkar made this statement on Wednesday. Subhash Sarkar is also the state in charge of the BJP in Jharkhand and the state vice-president of the BJP in West Bengal.
