Gurgaon: In an attempt to inoculate school and
university staff across the city, the health department has planned to set up 42 special centres starting from Thursday. Each site will have
Covishield doses for 50 first and 50 second dose
recipients. The health department aims to vaccinate all school staff in the state by the end of this month.
Apart from these 42 sites, 62 government centres will also be open on Thursday for the inoculation drive.
“We will be holding dedicated sessions for people who work in schools and universities and our aim is to vaccinate the staff of all schools in the state by August 31. We also plan to send teams to educational institutions for setting up
vaccination camps,” said Dr Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
Five special vans will be used for this purpose, he added. The health department will prepare a micro plan to inoculate students who are eligible for the shots. “We have asked universities to identify sites where our teams can set up camps. Right now, the target is to inoculate teaching and non-teaching staff in schools and universities. After that, we plan to vaccinate the students,” Yadav said.
On Wednesday, the city got 30,000 Covishield doses. Of the 62 government sessions planned for Thursday, 54 will administer Covishield shots and
Covaxin will be available at seven places.
Sputnik V will be administered at one site.
As many as 12,759 people in the 18-44 years age group got vaccinated on Wednesday. In the 45+ category, 3,306 people took the shots and 85 healthcare and 154 frontline workers were also inoculated. In all, 16,304 shots were administered. While 7,759 doses were given at government sites, 8,545 shots were administered at private centres. A total of 9,342 first doses and 6,962 second doses have been administered.
So far, 21,31,532 shots have been administered in the city. Of these, 15,84,632 were first doses and 5,46,900 were second doses. According to Census 2011, Gurgaon’s projected population eligible for vaccination is 17,41,000. So far, about 91% of the population has got at least one dose and a little over 31% has got both doses.
Six new Covid cases
On Wednesday, Gurgaon recorded six new Covid cases, taking the tally to 1,81,002. There are 75 active cases. The positivity rate stands at 0.1% and the recovery rate is 99.6%. In the past 24 hours, five people have recovered. While 70 patients are in home isolation, five are in hospitals.
