Assam News: Rs 100 crore to be invested in lighting Guwahati, Muharram to be celebrated on August 20, door to door inoculation in Golaghat, GMC conducted an eviction drive

The department of Housing and Urban Affairs has decides to invest up to Rs 100 crore to light up the entire city to make Guwahati –a smart city. Assam State Minister for Minister for the Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal also said that builders who fail to complete the real estate projects within the committed time will face strict punishment. Further, under the ‘Guwahati Smart City’ initiative, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) said it has picked Vi Business, the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea as its smart city partner. And under this partnership, GMC will provide Vi’s Intelligent Mobility solutions to Guwahati Municipal Swacch Bharat workers.

20Th August declared as half- holiday on Account of Muharram 

The Government of Assam has declared 20th August, 2021, as a half-holiday on account of “Muharram” instead of 19th August, 2021, for the state as per office memorandum of the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India, and on decision received from the State Hilal Committee, Assam in this regard.

Golaghat District administration to deploy Officials for door-to-door inoculation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, after reviewing the Covid situation in the district asked the Deputy Commissioner Mrigesh naryan Baruah and Health officials to set the target of inoculating at least 10,000 people per day.

 He also asked the district authorities to lay special focus on tea gardens, Anganwadi centres and elementary schools for providing piped water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission and directed the PWD road department to undertake the four-laning of the road from Dergaon to Gloaghat and also to prepare a blueprint for establishing sports complexes in Dergoan and Sarupathar constituencies. Moreover he also asked the Deputy Commissioner to select land for establishing a medical college in the district.

GMC conducts eviction drive, Declares No Vending Zone

When they got no response from the encroachers after the mic announcement, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in coordination with the Assam Police at S.S Road, strectching from Goenka point near Sikh Temple to MG road near LIC office which has been designated as ‘no vending zone’ under the Street Vendors Act 2014 conducted an eviction drive today on 19-08-2021.

The main reason for the eviction is to clear the traffic congestion created by the street vendor and hawkers that often cause overcrowding on footpaths and pavements and at times, even violate social distancing norms.
